How many of us are affected by depression?

Over 2500 GMTV viewers completed our depression survey - find out the surprising results
We asked you to take part in our GMTV survey about depression and the results were overwhelming. Over 75% of the 2655 GMTV viewers who completed the survey said that they think they suffer from depression and 78% think that they have suffered from depression in the past.
When it came to diagnosing depression, 53% said that they had been diagnosed and 65% said that they had been prescribed anti-depressants to deal with the condition. Over 1100 people thought that their illness wasn't taken seriously by friends and family and over 800 thought that their employers could do more to help.
62% said that depression had had a serious impact on their relationships and 39% had taken time off work due to depression.
