What HEY Mind do for World Mental Health Day?
World Mental Health Day - What did we do?
PACE - Keep Smiling, Get Moving - BBC Headroom
The PACE project were asked to give a taster of the sort of work they do at the Keep Smiling, Get Moving event in Hull on the 10th October 2009. PACE were privileged to work with local dance groups Phusion and A.Ward on the day. Hull and East Yorkshire Mind also had a number of stewards in the city centre to promote what was going on, and raise awareness of World Mental Health Day. A big thanks from Lee Brown to all those who helped or performed at the event!
POINT - Body, Mind & Soul event and Orchard Disc Golf
An event was recently held at the Freedom Centre, Friday October 16th by the POINT Social Prescribing Project to promote better mental and physical wellbeing. The event was held in conjunction with the Get Moving week and it gave the public/residents of East Hull the opportunity to get involved in activities held on the day, as well as receiving information on local and city wide services.
Organisations that attended included: Active Lifestyles, Healthwise and members of the Health Champions, the Healthy Hearts team who provided free health checks for anyone between the ages of 40 -64, The British Red Cross who demonstrated their talents in hand and shoulder massage, as well as Why Weight, The East Hull Health Trainers and Step Easy Healthcare providing reflexology sessions. Also Unity in the Community (often known as Looking Good, Feeling Good) who kindly put on a dance routine to show that there is no age restriction when it comes to exercise and feeling good.
Sue Spice from Club Salsa also delivered a one hour introductory taster in salsa dancing and, last but by no means least, our own PACE project supported the event by running the Wii fit and Disc Golf outside the centre for anyone wishing to improve their Frisbee skills. A number of questionnaires were completed by certain members of the public who attended and the feedback obtained was very positive. People enjoyed the event/activities and found the information available useful. If anyone would like further information on the services provided either by Mind or any of the other professionals whom attended this event please feel free to contact our Information Officer Patrick Knowles on 01482 240200.
